We took a day trip to Charleston, about 80 miles down the road and spent the late morning doing a walking tour of historic downtown. I forgot how much I love the architecture here. The houses have such style and grace while being particularly practical. With south facing porches and working shutters and second floor breezeways they are designed for heat like today’s scorcher. We did a late southern lunch at Magnolias. Thanks to the Yelp reviews we tried the best ever fried green tomatoes, blue crab soup, heirloom salad and shellfish w grits. All that and some homemade iced tea to cool down. A solid day of vacationing.
